Hi Dan,

I've checked the config that I used (on Linux) and it's pretty much as above. The only thing I can think of is that you do need to have dynamips running as root for it to connect to the interfaces.

I guess it could make a difference that I was using VMWare Server, but as you get the vmnet interfaces you should be able to bind to them.

I'll have a play on my mac and see if I can replicate and find a solution.

----- And here's the update!

On a Mac you have to use a tap interface for dynamips.

You can get it from <a href="http://tuntaposx.sourceforge.net/" rel="nofollow">http://tuntaposx.sourceforge.net/</a> or use ports to install it. From there it's pretty much as above but using bridged interfaces in vmware (or virtualbox) onto the tap interfaces

I see from your config that it's pretty straight forward, but, unfortunately, I haven't had the same success using the nio_gen_eth for vmnet1. in fact, I've been scrubbing the Internet for any solution that does allow VMWare virtual interfaces to connect to DYNAGEN devcies, and you are the only one that's been able to make this work. Could you expand on your environment? perhaps you've deployed it in a way that holds the magic ticket.

My setup, MAC OS X hosting DYAMIPS/DYNAGEN running 3 routers and one Windows XP VMWare workstation connecting to the MAC on VMNET1. The DYNAGEN environment has two interfaces (f0/0) off two routers bridging one physical interface (en0) to the real LAN, two interfaces (f0/1) off the same two routers into the switch mod of the third router (f1/1-2). the third router has one interface (f0/0) bridging a second interface off the MAC (en2) and an interface (f0/1) attempting to bind to the MACs VMNET1 to allow connectivity to the WinXP workstation. connecting the routers to the ethernet interfaces on the MAC works like a charm using nio_gen_eth:en#. it's the connection to VMNET1 that fails on startup.

appreciate the assistance, Dan

Comment on PuTTY as telnet handler in IE7 by Garry Garrett

It is too bad that web browers don't support an ssh://servername:port/ tag - that's really what I want. But I'm wondering if I can hijack the telnet tag for that purpose? If I setup tags like:

telnet://servername:22/

And configure PuTTY such as you have done here, would it SSH instead of Telnet into "servername"? I suppose I could call "path\to\putty.exe -ssh ..." to ensure that SSH was being used instead of telnet. Perhaps what I really want to do is make use of

putty -load "sessionname"

and then my URL would be more like:

telnet://sessionname/

Actually, I probably want to strip "telnet://" and the trailing slash out of %1 and then put that in as an argument to -load. Hmm. Something like this would be really nice in that I can save in the session all sorts of parameters (telnet vs. ssh, fonts, colors, scroll back buffer size, etc.).
