Another bite at the wagon

So it’s back to trying to lose some weight… AGAIN!

This time around I’m going to attack my bulging gut from two angles – exercise and diet.

I’m not going to diet, because I don’t think diets work, not for me anyway. What I’m doing is eating better food, homemade where I can, and much less junk. This week for example I have made fajitas (beef and chicken), chili con carne, and bolognese, and taken the leftovers in to work with me for lunch the next day. It’s certainly helping my pocket because I’m not buying lunch every day, and it seems to be working for the weight too – I’m down 3lbs this week.

The exercise regime is more difficult, I do hate early mornings and getting out of bed at 6am to go to the gym just isn’t on my list of favourite things. However if I manage to get it to be routine then it might just stick this time.

Let’s see how long I can stick it out this time…   (the weight loss for the more filthy minded of you)

  • Good job. I’ve found setting a reward for myself or short-term goals is helping me with my focus and motivation.

    • I’m going to work in 5kg steps I think, get myself something nice when I drop to something ending in 5, something even nicer when it ends in a 0.

  • Just run, dude. Run run run. And don’t eat bread. No sandwiches for lunch. Salad is king!

You long term goal should be to run four miles every day – don’t worry though, I don’t even do this myself at the moment because i’m lazy and don’t have the willpower. 4 miles = 6.44 km. most people run 2 miles in the morning then 2 in the evening but I try to do it all at once, though i normally give up at 5k. Anyway that should be your goal. Run and the weight will come off. As long as you don’t run super slow. it’s important to regulate your breathing so you can tolerate the runnning – if you can’t find a breathing rhythm to go with your running then you’re running too fast (at present).

    • Hey man, thanks for the suggestion, I’ll start doing something along those lines as soon as I lose enough weight that I don’t seriously screw up my knees by running.
Seriously, I even have to be careful if I have the treadmill going too fast.
Excessive weight and double-jointedness don’t make for happy knees.
