Early shift blues

I may have mentioned before that I hate doing the early shift at work.

We cover from 6am through until 6pm, usually I manage to do the 9:30am to 6pm shift, which is fine by me because it gives me extra time in bed. However recently I’ve been experimenting with the early shift, that’s 6am until 2pm.

Finishing at 2pm is great, gives you plenty of time to do… well stuff. The problem is the starting at 6am. I live an hour away from work, that means I have to leave here at 5am, and to stand a chance of being out of here at 5am I have to be waking up at 4am. 4am?! I didn’t even know it existed until I started this job!

I’m not a morning person, getting up that early leaves me tired and run down and generally cranky. Worse – this week it has led (I’m convinced) to me getting a cold that I’ve not shifted.

Happily next week I’m back to the good old late shift, and I’m going to try bribing people so that I never have to get out of bed before 6am again!

I can confirm that Matt is NOT a morning person as I sit next to him in work….Boy can he moan ;0)

  • yeah yeah, bear with a sore head.
But Jolly, you weren’t sitting next to me last week, just wait until I’m on earlies again next week >:D

Why not find out which weeks you’re on earlies, and then book some time off. Your boss will be happy because you’re using up your leave, and you won’t have to get up early!*

    Two birds, one stone.

*This idea probably won’t work, I accept no responsibility.

  • Not a bad idea, but there’s not enough holiday in the year for it to work unfortunately.

I think I’ll just resort to making someone swap with me so that I never have to do earlies again… after this week… and the intended target is on holiday the next time I’m supposed to be on earlies so that might be a bad week too… but eventually my diabolical plan will work!
