Work sucks at the moment. The job is supposed to be technical, but it’s just so much administration and paperwork, it sucks.
But I made an interesting discovery today:
It has been decided by a vote (in which I was not in the majority) that we will do CRFs every five weeks for a full week. During that week we will do nothing else.
When not on a CRF week we will be in a rota to cover the helpdesk, two at a time. With a team of 5 people, one on CRFs, this means that we’ll be on the desk every other day.
I also had an email telling me that I had to use my holiday days up by the 31st March. I have 13.5 days of holiday to take.
When I planned this out on a year planner it turns out that between today and the 31st March I will have exactly half a day at work where I will be neither on the desk nor doing CRFs.
In this half a day I have got to…
* write four reports on development work I have already done
* build a lab network to prove I can do the job
* commission the new videoconferencing network
* familiarise myself with the few systems that I haven’t played with yet
* and a load of other things
If I do all that, then I get to be a grade 6 and get a pay rise.
Right now the only thing keeping me from topping myself is my anticipation of the DS. WHEN WILL IT ARRIVE?!
