Two months and a sofa

So, I’m now two months into this weght-loss kick, seems to be going ok – I’ve lost 10 kilos, clothes are looser, and the graph is still on a downward trend.

This afternoon I go for an initial consultation at the recreation centre in Bridgend for excercise on referral. My doctor has referred me to them, which is slightly concerning, but on the other hand I’m willling to take any help I can get. I’m led to believe I’ll get a free gym membership and some kind of personal trainer assistance. If that is so and I manage to keep interested in it long enough then it’ll be a useful thing, but I know that I’m not likely to stay interested, I get bored easy.

In other news, after 3 years in my flat I finally have a nice sofa and armchair. Up until now I’ve had an old sofa bed that was only ever designed for occaisional use, and an ikea rocking chair. I went out just after Christmas and ordered a 3 seater (officially 2.5 seater) sofa and an armchair, they got delivered today after being delayed by the French port blockades.

I loved that the delivery guys were to take away the old sofa bed but didn’t want to have to carry anything downstairs that they didn’t have to – the cushions from the sofa bed and the wrapping from the new stuff just got thrown out of my 2nd floor (some might call them 3rd floor since there are two flats below mine) french doors, and destroyed a couple of shrubberies  :D

I am going to have a good sit down this evening.

  • My advice is to pull yourself out of the environment you are in. I hate the gym with a passion, but when I used to go with Paul and Dylan occasionally – time just flew. Since moving to Japan those guys aren’t around, so I have to find an alternative because none of my japanese mates live around here.

So for me, I turned to my ipod and not for music – I tried finding the really bizarre podcasts out there and filled up my ipod, there are some that are so unfunking believable that it pulls you out of the environment you are in. Obviously, you need something that would be suited to your own listening tastes but I do strongly recommend the ‘Sick and Wrong’ podcast. 2 hours of the most sick and wrong news stories for the week, presented by two assholes – really entertaining! They have 172 shows under their belt – that’ll keep ya going for months!

Good luck Matt, you can do this!

    • Cheers Chris, I’ll give the podcast a listen, but you know I actually quite enjoy going to the gym, perhaps because it’s actually a rather nice environment down there, not like the old gym in Llanelli that stank of stale BO and was so small that you were knocking elbows with the person next to you.
The biggest challenge is getting out of bed early enough to go before work when it’s not too busy.
